Audience can sing along at ?We Sing Noel'

Hometown News: Palm Bay - 12/15/2017

BREVARD COUNTY ? There's nothing like spreading happiness and peace at Christmastime through a community event of singing seasonal music and a special remembrance of those who serve in the military.

"We Sing Noel" is a free, annual holiday cantata shared by choir singers and this year attendees are encouraged to join in a sing-along portion.

The event is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at First Christian Church of Melbourne, 2010 S. Babcock St.

"You will learn a little bit about each song and then are invited to join us in celebrating the season with your voice," said Heather Landers, assistant choir director. "It is a lot of fun! There is something very special about joining voices together to sing familiar tunes."

The first half of the event will have a small portion of the choir leading the audience in the sing-along, with the lyrics available on screens, Mrs. Landers said.

Some of the selections planned for the afternoon include "Joy to the World," "Good King Wenceslas," "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" and "Angels We Have Heard on High."

Then, Mrs. Landers will accompany U.S. Army veteran Kara Brooks for a unique rendition of "I'll be Home for Christmas," which will be sung for absent military personnel.

"Kara is an experienced vocalist, performing at the ABC Awards for the Brevard County School system and for a time with the Indialantic Chamber Singers," Mrs. Landers said. "Having her here to share this message, knowing what it is like to be far away from home for Christmas,

is truly a blessing." Attendees can stay after the cantata and sing-along for cookies and punch.
