I'm veteran and an NRA member, and I support changes to gun laws

The Denver Post - 3/8/2018

I am a U.S. Army veteran and Life Member of the NRA in favor of responsible legislative changes to Second Amendment rights. In 1934, as a response to assaults in our society involving automatic weapons, the federal government enacted the National Firearms Act. The NFA restricted machine guns and other exotic weapons. It is time to restrict ownership of assault weapons from the general population. This can be accomplished by enhancing the 1934 NFA to include semi-automatic weapons having a magazine capacity more than 10 rounds. The requirement to own or manufacture these weapons would require special licensing and extended background checks. We need to improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and require background checks for all gun purchases. And we need to repeal the Dickey Amendment, which prevents the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from researching gun violence. Please support our children and demand action now.
